Drew Kraus, a member at NextFab, made these beautiful butcher blocks and cutting boards using reclaimed hardwood found at The Resource Exchange, plus some scrap material collected from NextFab! “I only got into woodworking mid 2019 but excited to move onto more and bigger projects. As makers, we can make a lot of waste. But there are creative solutions for artists and fabricators, from sourcing more sustainable materials to diverting reusable resources from the waste stream. This week, NextFab and The Resource Exchange got together to host an open forum focused on sustainability in the arts. Local artists, organizations, businesses, and city representatives discussed the benefits and challenges of making sustainably. The Resource Exchange and the NextFab North maker space are moving to 1800 N. American Street, a 60,000+ square foot building along the American Street Improvement Project Corridor, as both organizations prepare to scale. This synergistic collaboration will leverage the strengths of both of our organizations by combining NextFab’s tools, technology, and training with The Resource Exchange’s reclaimed materials and sustainable arts mission and programs.
