Reclaimed “River Beasts and Besties!”

Beth from Ethnologica, a research consultancy firm with a focus on community-based ethnography, recently came into The Resource Exchange to find reclaimed materials to use in their storytelling and art workshop River Beasts and Besties. The event, held at The Barn at Bartram’s Garden, was made possible by an Ecotopian Toolkit award from the Penn Program in Environmental Humanities for Ethnologica’s project entitled Monsters of the Deep, Myths for the Future. Creative Reuse with The Fabric Workshop and Museum Family Programs!

On Friday, June 29th, teens used reclaimed materials from The Resource Exchange for The Fabric Workshop and Museum‘s Teen Program: Feeling Free! A patch making activity inspired by Ursula von Rydingsvard’s collaboration with The Fabric Workshop and Museum, PODERWAĆ, 2017, a monumental-sized leather motorcycle jacket. Salvaged Set Materials in Local School Production of Macbeth!

Here at the re, many of our customers are teachers…and they’re always reusing the materials we’ve salvaged in creative ways!   One local teacher, Meghan, found fabric and a ton of cardboard tubes (which are in endless supply here, and only 50¢!) and knew they’d be the perfect materials for her school’s upcoming production of Macbeth.
