Katie Knoeringer

Animals are magic. This idea has brought me to research folklore and folktales as well as to seek out animal presences in my daily life.  Whether hiking in the mountains of Wyoming, going to the zoo, or being with my cats, my awe of our human counterparts is unwavering. I am interested in the idea of animals as innocent observers and as active protagonists.  I sustain my studio practice by drawing on location in and around my neighborhood, a habit I began whole heartedly while living in Hammond, LA and documenting the personalities of the different houses. The playful imagery in my work is the direct result of a rich inner life and a thriving passion for reading fiction.  The power of day dreams is the thread running through my paintings and drawings.
