Making Materials Matter

As makers, we can make a lot of waste. But there are creative solutions for artists and fabricators, from sourcing more sustainable materials to diverting reusable resources from the waste stream. This week, NextFab and The Resource Exchange got together to host an open forum focused on sustainability in the arts. Local artists, organizations, businesses, and city representatives discussed the benefits and challenges of making sustainably. “Days for Girls” Langhorne PA Team Uses Reclaimed Fabric to Create Hygiene Kits for Girls

In June, The Langhorne PA Team of Days for Girls got reclaimed terry towels from the Resource Exchange to use in creating feminine hygiene kits for girls in need around the world.  Many girls throughout the world do not go to school when they have their menstrual period for lack of resources. Days for Girls strives to “increase access to menstrual care and education by developing global partnerships, cultivating social enterprises, mobilizing volunteers, and innovating sustainable solutions that shatter stigmas and limitations for women and girls. Asya completes her senior project at the re!

Asya Milton completed her senior project by volunteering for three weeks here at The Resource Exchange. Asya is graduating cum laude from Germantown Academy this June and will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall.  My Time at The Resource Exchange by Asya Milton One of my graduation requirements was to complete a “senior project” at the end of the school year.
