The Art of Play and Sustainability

We were thrilled when Kara Rossi, teacher at PlayArts, contacted us to set up a visit to The Resource Exchange with their summer campers. PlayArts is a beautiful child-centered arts and play space for infants through young children located on Front Street in Fishtown. Their facility offers educational enrichment, group classes and private music lessons for children and their parents. From Park to Park -Theater Props Becomes Volunteer Board!

Prop shields made for a “Shakespeare in Clark Park” production have found new life as a volunteer board in Pennypack Park! Emma Schad, Stewardship Coordinator for Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, recently came into The Resource Exchange and got reclaimed materials to make a sign for a regular volunteer opportunity that she hosts at Pennypack Park. University City Arts League Summer Camp Project

Here at the re, we regularly meet teachers that use reclaimed materials in their classrooms and school projects. One such person is Luiza Cardenuto, who teaches at the University City Arts League Summer Camp, an outstanding  arts camp for children ages 5 -10. This summer, the kids did a new project every week and many of the materials they used came from The Resource Exchange!  One of the projects the kids were asked to create was to transform reclaimed materials into snow and ice inspired pieces.
