Making Materials Matter

As makers, we can make a lot of waste. But there are creative solutions for artists and fabricators, from sourcing more sustainable materials to diverting reusable resources from the waste stream. This week, NextFab and The Resource Exchange got together to host an open forum focused on sustainability in the arts. Local artists, organizations, businesses, and city representatives discussed the benefits and challenges of making sustainably. Jonathan Dedecker’s New York Gallery Opening!

Jonathan Dedecker is a Philadelphia-based artist and frequent customer at the re. In fact, he was the reCreate Featured Artist  here at The Resource Exchange in January of 2016! This month, through August 26, Jonathan has an exhibition titled “Infinity Land” at Marvin Gardens gallery in the Ridgewood neighborhood in Queens, NY!   If you’re in that area this month, go check out his show. The Repurpose Project: Temple U’s Sustainable Event Management Course visits the re!

Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management partnered with The Resource Exchange to create The Repurpose Project. The Project is part of the Sustainable Event Management Course within the Event Leadership Certificate. The overall goal of STHM Sustainable Event Management course is to better educate students about environmentally friendly initiatives in the event and meeting planning industry. Students are provided with resources and tools to needed to become socially responsible future leaders of event and meeting industry.
