Heaven and Hell at The Resource Exchange!

Members from Burgundy Blue Dance recently stopped by the re looking for some materials to be used in a dance show entitled “Heaven and Hell”. They purchased two wooden doors and ended up transforming them entirely by making pews for their performance!  Burgundy Blue Dance Company is a Contemporary/Jazz Company based in the Philadelphia area founded by Director and Choreographer Sevon Wright.  The company is full of an eclectic group of talented dancers from Philadelphia’s own backyard. OACCE’s Philadelphia’s Professional Development Day for Arts and Enrichment Teachers + the re!

Following the inaugural Philly Youth Theatre Festival, the City of Philadelphia Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (OACCE) spoke with students, teachers, and theater companies and learned that “instead of a theater competition with prize money, what all three groups wanted most was an initiative where Philadelphia’s public schools – students and teachers – and the city’s professional theatre community could learn from one another.” So OACCE decided to host that discussion, during the School District’s professional development day for Arts and Enrichment teachers on August 27th at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA). 10 Years of The Resource Exchange!

Did you know that The Resource Exchange is 10 Years Old?! Starting this month and throughout the next year we’ll be celebrating 10 years of diverting creative materials from landfill! In 2009 our Executive Director Karyn Gerred founded The Resource Exchange and began our organization’s first program, reSETS, which targeted waste materials specifically generated from the entertainment industry. On the set of our first major film strike, we saved over 25 tons of the lumber with a local union film crew.
