A carload of MATH!

When the Colonial School District (from Conshohocken/Plymouth Meeting) emailed and said they wanted to donate a CARLOAD of elementary math manipulatives, we said “Um… what are math manipulatives?” Turns out they are colorful 2 dimensional shapes, 3 dimensional shapes, counting cubes, unifix cubes, and various other items from Pearson’s Investigation 2 Series in grades K-5. These shapes can be taken out of the classroom and into YOUR creative process! Space ships with PlayArts!

We were happy to welcome the wonderful PlayArts summer campers and their teacher Margot Steinberg to The Resource Exchange for another great project!  PlayArts is a beautiful, child-centered arts and play space for infants through young children, located on Front Street in Fishtown. Their facility offers educational enrichment, group classes and private, music lessons for children and their parents. Sustainability is a key part of the PlayArts philosophy. With just $2.00 in hand, each camper collected several items from the Random Room to later be used in building their own spaceships. 10 Years of The Resource Exchange!

Did you know that The Resource Exchange is 10 Years Old?! Starting this month and throughout the next year we’ll be celebrating 10 years of diverting creative materials from landfill! In 2009 our Executive Director Karyn Gerred founded The Resource Exchange and began our organization’s first program, reSETS, which targeted waste materials specifically generated from the entertainment industry. On the set of our first major film strike, we saved over 25 tons of the lumber with a local union film crew.
