The Resource Exchange is excited to see businesses of all sizes taking steps to lessen their impact on the environment either by making donations of reusable materials or by shopping secondhand- first. Together we’re able to save thousands of pounds of reusable materials from film productions and other local businesses from going to landfills and incinerators each year. Reclaimed Materials turned into GOLD!

Former reCreate Featured Artist Kristie Landry found all the materials she needed at the Resource Exchange to create a beautiful 50th wedding anniversary party for her parents. Amongst the materials she found at the re were envelopes, wrapping paper, a hole punch, fabric, a photo album, decorative paper and rub-on letters. “My parent’s 50th anniversary party was supplied by the Resource Exchange from top to bottom!” She made invitations for the 50th (gold) anniversary party by using gold envelopes that were embossed with someone else’s name and wedding dates. Making Materials Matter

As makers, we can make a lot of waste. But there are creative solutions for artists and fabricators, from sourcing more sustainable materials to diverting reusable resources from the waste stream. This week, NextFab and The Resource Exchange got together to host an open forum focused on sustainability in the arts. Local artists, organizations, businesses, and city representatives discussed the benefits and challenges of making sustainably.
