Excel Academy reclaimed lauan “eyes” project!

Film and theatre sets use and discard a shocking amount of lauan, a tropical hardwood that is increasingly in short supply worlwide. We save as much of it as we can for further creative reuse, and we were thrilled to see what the Excel Academy students did with our pieces.

From their teacher (and our regular customer!) Jennifer Jordan:

” I used this lesson as my high school students’ final project. In this lesson, students studied their eyes, and also analyzed a quiet song lyric about eyes. They learned the proper proportions of the face, and applied it to their own eyes. Students used acrylic paint on the pieces of wood. Students then wrote an essay based on the quote they analyzed and how it connects to their life.

I have the eyes on display above my white board. The banner that is also pictured is made with bias tape and some fabric from RE also!”
